November 24, 2015

Imagine using the wind to your advantage as you skim across the ocean waves, with only a board and a sail to guide you. This is Puerto Rico windsurfing, and it is an activity that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. If you would prefer to be guided by a large arched kite instead of a sail, then kitesurfing is another option that is just as freeing and adrenaline-filled.

Whether you opt for kitesurfing or windsurfing in Puerto Rico, you will be seeking the same water conditions: varying levels of waves altered by increased wind speeds. For this kind of action, the ideal time for Puerto Rico windsurfing or kitesurfing is in the winter and spring months (December to April). However, if you prefer calmer waters more suited for racing, July through September is perfect.

No matter which time of year you choose, these are the locations in the San Juan area (close to Bahia Beach) that will give you the greatest Puerto Rico windsurfing or kitesurfing experience:

That being said, Isla Verde is even more popular for its kitesurfing opportunities. The beach is just as wide and sandy as Punta Las Marias, and it offers an abundance of waves ready to ride.
