The 2017 Puerto Rico Open was held March 23-26, and the island was proud to host some of the world's best golfers from the United States, Canada, Germany, South Africa, Australia, and many other countries, at one of the finest Puerto Rico golf resorts.The tournament was held at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club on a 36-hole course designed by Tom Kite. At the end of the competition, D.A. Points from the United States came out on top.As reported by Golf Digest, he "showed an impressive finishing kick, birdieing four of the last six holes...to close out a six-under 66 and a two-stroke victory at the Puerto Rico Open." Retief Goosen (South Africa), Bryson DeChambeau (U.S.A.) and Bill Lunde (U.S.A.) tied for second place. According to Golf Digest, this is DeChambeau's best finish on tour.Check the final leaderboard to see how your favorite golfers did this year.However, as the Chairman of the Puerto Rico Open David H. Chafey, Jr. says, "The Puerto Rico Open is much more than a golf tournament. It's an event." It's definitely something to add to your list of things to do in Puerto Rico.To begin with, part of the proceeds from the tournament are donated to charity. This year, donations were made to the Ricky Martin Foundation, Asesores Financieros Comunitarios, Agenda Ciudadana, Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, Centros Sor Isolina Ferré, The YMCA, and Carvin School.Even though the tournament started on Thursday, the activities began as early as Monday with parties, barbecues, junior clinics, and a Par 3 Challenge. In addition to tournament play each day, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday featured live music and entertainment in the evenings, and the Liberty Kids Zone was open during the day. Food trucks were on hand to satisfy everyone's snacking needs.When it comes to golf, Puerto Rico is a fantastic destination.
