Bahia Beach is a Resort with an extraordinary natural value located on a privileged site in the northeast coast of Puerto Rico. The site provides a connection with other ecosystems in the vicinity thus, facilitating the movement of species along the coast and into the mountain region. It is the last section of an ecological corridor that extends from the high elevations (more than 3,000 feet) at El Yunque Rain Forest down to the coast in Rio Grande. Part of this corridor is the Espiritu Santo river which surrounds the East boundary and gives its name to the neighboring Natural Reserve. This geographical location and the diversity of ecosystems within the premises enhances the site with both, inland and coastal species. Bahia Beach Resort has become a cornerstone in the support of conservation initiatives in the region, provides ecological connectivity, functionality and integrity, as an active participant of the natural phenomena. Also, becoming an expression of the natural surroundings providing an opportunity for our visitors and residents to become part of it.
Leatherback turtles, endangered species and the largest sea turtle, nest every year on the 2 miles of beach along the Atlantic Ocean. A conservation and protection program in close coordination with the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources of Puerto Rico is in place.
Conscious of the natural environment that makes Bahia Beach Resort such a special place, Bahia Beach Resort enrolled in the Audubon International Signature Program in 2008 and became the Caribbean’s first and only resort to receive Audubon’s International Gold Signature Sanctuary certification, awarded to new developments which are designed, constructed and maintained according to Audubon International’s precise planning standards and strict environmental criteria.
The honor of receiving the Audubon International Gold and Silver Signature Sanctuary Certifications recognized Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club environmentally sustainable design and development, and acknowledges the environmental leadership of the Resort.
